MY NAME IS JAMIE TOOMEY.

I'm a senior at Watkinson School and a member of the Global Studies Diploma Program. My main interest in the program lies in drawing connections between art and culture, as I am an accomplished musician and sculptor. Art has cultural significance, and it is important for me to connect my artistic work to my work in Global Studies.

Currently, I sit fourth chair in the Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble at the Hartt School, and I play piccolo and flute in the Connecticut Youth Symphony. I also play in a flute trio at Hartt, and I hope to involve my chamber group in service music soon.

As a member of the Global Studies Program, I am offered opportunities such as events, interesting speakers, and intimate masterclasses. I connect with the other students in the program to discuss global issues pertaining to our lives and the world around us.

The themes of Global Studies include:

the arts, the environment, globalization, global health, human rights, non-violence and war, religion, sustainability and technology/communication.
